200க்கும் அதிகமான தமிழ் அகதிகள் சிறிலங்கா அரசாங்கத்தின் பழிவாங்கல் நடவடிக்கையில் இருந்து தப்பி ஓடுகின்றனர்.
ஜனநாயக முறைப்படி கனடாவாழ் தமிழ் மக்களின் பிரதிநிதிகளாகத் தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்ட கனடியத் தமிழ் தேசிய அவை உறுப்பினர்களும் பல கனடியத் தமிழ் அமைப்புகளும் ஒன்றிணைந்து கப்பலில் கனடாவை நோக்கி வந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் தமிழ் அகதிகளுக்கு உதவி செய்வது தொடர்பாக 2010ம் ஆண்டு ஓகஸ்ட் 4ம் திகதி ஒரு கலந்துரையாடலை நடத்தினர்.
அந்த நிகழ்ச்சியின் போது சட்டத்தரணியும், குடிவரவு மற்றும் அகதிகள் தொடர்பான விடயங்களில் நிபுணருமான லோர் வோல்மன் சில மாதங்களுக்கு முன்னர் கடல்மார்க்கமாக வன்கூவரில் வந்து இறங்கிய 76 தமிழ் அகதிகள் தொடர்பாக எடுக்கப்பட்ட நடவடிக்கைகளின் விபரங்களை எடுத்து விளக்கினார்.
அத்துடன் கனடாவை நோக்கி வந்து கொண்டிருக்கும், பெண்கள் குழந்தைகள் உட்பட, 200 அகதிகள் தொடர்பான நடவடிக்கைகளை தாமதிக்காமல் ஆர்ம்பிக்க வேண்டியதன் முக்கியத்துவத்தையும் விளக்கிக் கூறினார்.
“கனடாவை நோக்கி வந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் தமிழ் அகதிகளுக்கு வழங்க வேண்டிய உடனடி உதவிகள் தொடர்பாக வன்கூவரில் வசிக்கும் தமிழ் மக்களுடன் இணைந்து செயற்படுகின்றோம். இந்த அகதிகளின் நிலைமையை வளக்கும் ஆவணங்களையும் நாம் தயாரித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றோம்,” என கனடியத் தமிழ் தேசிய அவையின் பேச்சாளரான கிருஷ்ணா சரவணமுத்து கூறினார்.
இந்த அகதிகளுக்கு உடனடியான உதவிகளை வழங்குவதற்கு கனடியத் தமிழர் தேசிய அவை வேறு பல தமிழ் அமைப்புகளுடன் இணைந்து செயற்படுகின்றார்கள். நடைபெற்ற கலந்துரையாடலின் போது சட்ட ஒழுங்குகளைச் செய்வதற்கும், ஊடகத் தொடர்புகளை மேற்கொள்வதற்கும், குழந்தைகளின் உரிமைகளைப் பாதுகாப்பதற்கும், சமூகத் தொடர்புகளை மேற்கொள்வதற்குமாக பல உபகுழுக்களும் நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
“கனடிய தேசிய பாதுகாப்பை உறுதி செய்வதற்கு அரசாங்கம் எடுக்கும் சகல சட்டபூர்வமான நடவடிக்கைகளுக்கும் நாம் மதிப்பளிக்கும் அதே வேளை வந்துகொண்டிருக்கும் தமிழ் அகதிகளின் பிரச்சினையை மனிதநேயத்துடன் நோக்குமாறு கனடிய அரசாங்கத்தைப் பணிவன்புடன் கேட்டுக் கொள்கின்றோம்,” என தேசிய அவையின் தலைவர் மோகன் ராமகிருஷ்ணன் கூறியுள்ளார்.

இது தொடர்பில் மேலும் தெரியவருவதாவது:
எம்.வி சன் சீ எனப்படும் கப்பல் முன்னர் எம் வி ஹரின் பனிச்-19 என்ற பெயரை கொண்டிருந்தது (படத்தில் உள்ளது). அது தற்போது 200 தமிழ் மக்களை ஏற்றிக்கொண்டு கனடாவை நோக்கி செல்கின்றது என வெளிநாட்டு புலனாய்வு அமைப்புக்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளன.
இந்த கப்பல் தொடர்பில் எமக்கு அதிக தகவல்கள் தெரியாது, ஆனால் அது கனடாவின் வன்கூவர் பகுதியை நோக்கி செல்லலாம் என அமெரிக்கா வெளிவிவகார திணைக்களத்தின் பேச்சாளர் பிலிப் ஜே குறொலி தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
தாய்லாந்து நாட்டு கொடியுடன் செல்லும் இந்த கப்பலை அமெரிக்காவின் கரையோர காவல்படையினர் கண்காணித்து வருவதாக தெரிவிக்கப்படுகின்றது.
சில மாதங்களாக கடலில் பயணம் செய்யும் இந்த கப்பல் எதிர்வரும் வாரத்தின் முற்பகுதியில் பிரிட்டிஸ் கொலம்பியாவை சென்றடையும் என எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகின்றது.
AUGUST 9TH FORUM ON TAMIL ASYLUM SEEKERS OF CARGO SHIP MV SUN SEA
Toronto, August 6, 2010 - As reports of another boat containing Tamil refugees spread, so does the hysteria around their admissibility, and the means by which they arrive in Canada. Sparked by Sri Lankan government sources, and its intelligence apparatus, these innuendos effectively seek to discredit the would be refugees of their rights to a fair hearing, before they arrive ashore. This time around, there is increasing pressure from Sri Lankan sources to intercept the ship.
As an example, such sources have suggested that our government send it’s military to “thwart threats to Canada”, with the implication that the boatload of refugees are a threat to Canada with little regard for the validity of individual cases. Similar statements made by the same sources with regards to the 76 Tamil asylum seekers who arrived on the Ocean Lady in October 2009 were investigated by Canadian authorities, and no evidence found to that effect.
The Canadian government response to the arrival of the Ocean Lady in October 2009 offers some insight as to how it may respond to this migrant ship: following due process, assessing each case individually, accepting valid cases and rejecting anyone who is seen as a threat to Canadian security.
The Canadian Tamil Congress is organizing an urgent forum to directly address this issue and discuss Canada’s role in protecting refugees. In particular, we will hear from Canadian organizations, and politicians on the Canadian response to these refugees. We will also have on hand asylum seekers from the Ocean Lady who arrived in October 2009 and members of the community who themselves were refugees.
